Packaging Horizons

Recruiting in a Virtual World

by Michelle F. Nordlinger

Whether you are looking for a qualified candidate to fill an open position or you are a candidate looking for a qualified company, chances are you will turn to Women in Packaging, Inc.' s Web site, Packaging Career Hotline, (www.packagingcareerhotline.com) for help.

Packaging Career Hotline (PCH) started in print long before recruiting on the Web was available. The publication was very successful in attracting packaging companies interested in finding qualified candidates. With the advent of the Internet, Women in Packaging's (WMPKG) Founding Executive Director JoAnn R. Hines took the job service to the Web. Time delays due to press and mailing were no longer a factor as jobs openings were made available to Web site visitors instantly. The results have been staggering!

Another PCH Innovation

A recently added service for (PCH) users now includes a subscriber button for professionals who want to be notified of new jobs posted. "The response to this new feature has been overwhelming," reports Hines. "Now potential candidates subscribe to an e-mail list that lets them know which companies are looking for candidates. It allows the subscriber to pre-qualify the potential employer." PCH traffic continues to grow and WMPKG further fulfills its mission by making more packaging jobs visible for the larger packaging population. While the site traffic increases, the rates have not. WMPKG proudly maintains one of the largest packaging job sites available and boasts a no rate increase for three years running.
