Salute to Members
An 8th Anniversary Reflection on Progress in the Packaging Industry
As Women in Packaging Inc. (WMPKG) nears the celebration of its eighth anniversary,
the association reflects on the changes in the packaging industry and salutes those
women and men who helped propel our industry forward.
Look at What You've Accomplished
o More than 57 percent of all packaging school students are women.
o More women are entering the work force than ever before AND women are
pursuing technology-oriented fields at a 32 percent increase over previous years.
o More women are moving into decision-making roles within the industry.
WMPKG Makes an Impact
The companies and the names may change, but the faces remain the same. We are proud to
salute those 100+ members of WMPKG who have been with us for five or more years!
(Each will receive a five-year+ membership certificate.) Your commitment and dedication
to this association are to be commended!
Here's What Some of Our Long-Time Members Have to Say
Liz Shewalter-Goodwin, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Carnaud Metalbox Enterprises, Inc. -
Women in Packaging has provided me with networking opportunities for current and future business
for Carnaud Metalbox; the members are very professional.
Carol Pregger, Project Engineer, Package Development, The Gillette Company - One of the most valuable
benefits of Women in Packaging is that it allows me to meet and network with other female members who,
for one reason or another, are not active in IoPP or any of the other trade organizations related to the
packaging industry. These other organizations tend to be primarily male and can make a female newcomer to
their meetings feel like she's accidentally walked into a gentleman's club. Because women do not traditionally
consider employment in the packaging industry, it's difficult to make contact with our sisters in this industry
because the network web isn't as well established. But we are out there, and being involved in Women in Packaging
is an excellent way for us to find one another and support one another in furthering our careers. Actively utilizing
membership in Women in Packaging by making the most of the opportunities to get to know others in the industry is
tremendously helpful in making the connections that can move us forward.
Susan Moody, Vice President of Administration and Operations, DuPont Cyrel - My association with Women in Packaging
has introduced me to resources that I've been able to utilize both personally and professionally. The members of my
local chapter truly care about the well being of their members.
Harriet R. Kimball, President and Owner, Custom Pak, Inc. - Women in Packaging has been my inspiration and support
system in my ownership and certification as a 'WBE' of Custom Pak, Inc. In a male-dominated industry where the
"good old boy network" still exists, a woman must be determined, knowledgeable, and professional to penetrate that
"glass ceiling" in order to grow and expand business in the packaging industry. Women in Packaging has inspired this determination.
Leslie Westerman, Corporate Print and Production, General Nutrition Inc. - Women in Packaging has provided resource
information throughout the years as the packaging industry has transitioned into ground-breaking technological advances.
This organization provided resource information and contacts to support my career path and growth, and it has been reassuring
to know there are supportive people in this industry who have grown along with me.
Jan Arnson, Technical Sales Director, Specialized Packaging Inc. - An ad I once placed in one of the Women in Packaging newsletters
reconnected me with an old co-worker from 15 years earlier, which directly led to new customers. The organization and the programs
it sponsors reconfirm the importance of networking, especially in the unique field of packaging.
Lori Gettelfinger, Market Segment Manager - Tyvek¨ Industrial Packaging, DuPont - Women in Packaging provides a wonderful forum for
networking and personal and professional development of its members. It has truly become one of the leading and most active packaging
associations in terms of career development. I have attended many of the national meetings and have always walked away with good industry
contacts and information to help me manage my career.
Madeleine Crawford, Sales/Marketing Manager, Harper Machinery Corp.
- As one the original members I have come to realize the opportunities provided to women in this great industry thanks to your organization,
Women in Packaging. Congratulations on eight great years. I wish you many more.
Myra P. Miles, Packaging Development Project Manager, Perseco
- Women in Packaging has provided professional support at a time I desperately needed it by sharing practical success stories and solution
options. It has increased my networking opportunities with men and women in the packaging industry.
